Fight Back....Amuurica Style!!

You have heard the word many times, but what is an antioxidant?

Well, simply put, an antioxidant is a molecule capable of inhibiting the chemical reaction known as oxidation. Oxidation is a reaction that can produce free radicals, and these free radicals can cause chain reactions that lead to the damaging or death of a cell. This is referred to as "oxidative stress," and it seems to play a large role in human disease.

So, where do the antioxidants come in to play? Well, antioxidants have the ability to stop the chain reactions caused by free radicals by removing the free radicals (by donating an electron).

Each antioxidant performs differently, but all you need to know is that these molecules act like your very own Department of Defense. (Which if it's anything like the U.S. Department of Defense, I think you're good - God Bless Amuurica!)

Antioxidants include...
  • Vitamin C
  • Glutathione
  • Lipoic Acid
  • Uric Acid
  • Carontenes
  • Vitamin E
  • Co-enzyme Q
  • flavanoids
  • resveratrol
Where can you find them?
  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Grain Cereals
  • Eggs
  • Meat
  • Legumes
  • Nuts
  • Tea
  • Chocolate
  • Red Wine
Have a great day of fighting free radicals....America style!!!
